David Ross MD

Neuropsychiatrist, Brain Injury Specialist & Founder of NeuroGage

Dr. Ross is the Founder and Director of the Virginia Institute of Neuropsychiatry and the Founder and CEO of NeuroGage LLC. He is triple board certified in General Psychiatry, Neuropsychiatry, and Brain Injury Medicine, reflecting a rare depth of expertise at the intersection of brain health, behavior, and environmental exposure.

He completed medical school and residency in psychiatry at Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU), followed by a fellowship in neuropsychiatry with a focus on schizophrenia at the Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, University of Maryland, where he remained on faculty for several years. In 1997, Dr. Ross returned to VCU to serve on the full-time faculty before founding the Virginia Institute of Neuropsychiatry in 2001.

Dr. Ross specializes in the evaluation, treatment, and research of traumatic brain injury, toxic encephalopathy resulting from mold and biotoxin exposure, and a broad range of neuropsychiatric disorders. His clinical and research work has helped advance understanding of how structural and functional brain changes relate to complex neurocognitive and psychiatric symptoms.

A prolific researcher and educator, Dr. Ross has authored 53 peer-reviewed scientific publications, served as a reviewer for numerous scientific journals, and taught hundreds of medical students and residents throughout his career. He also served for many years as a member of the Brain Injury Medicine Examination Committee, contributing to national standards in the field.

Dr. Ross and his colleagues pioneered the clinical application of NeuroQuant®, an FDA-cleared MRI brain volumetry software, in patients with traumatic brain injury. Building on this work, they developed NeuroGage®, an advanced analytic platform that extends NeuroQuant’s capabilities and enhances objective brain assessment in complex neurological and neuropsychiatric conditions.
