Many patients with CIRS have abnormal brain volume, especially abnormal enlargement, likely due to chronic neuro-inflammation and swelling. That is why brain MRI scans with volume measurement are recommended for all patients who suffer from CIRS-induced neuropsychiatric symptoms of CIRS such as trouble with thinking, mood, behavior, or sleep. However, there are only two peer-reviewed studies on this topic dating back 10 years, and our methods for brain volume measurement have advanced greatly since then.
