Dr. Gavin Macgregor-Skinner, DVM, MSc, MPH, MRCVS, is a globally recognized expert in biological risk management and infectious disease prevention and control, with more than 30 years of experience spanning public health, emergency response, and workforce protection. A trained epidemiologist, he previously served as a U.S. CDC Epidemic Intelligence Service Officer, widely known as the “disease detectives.”
Dr. Macgregor-Skinner has led and supported international outbreak response and biological risk missions around the world, including Ebola response operations in West Africa, WHO Early Warning, Alert and Response System deployments in Afghanistan, and biological risk assessments in Iraq for the U.S. Department of Defense. His work bridges science, policy, and real-world implementation in high-risk environments.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Macgregor-Skinner conducted on-site risk assessments and delivered just-in-time infection prevention, cleaning, and safety training across 16 U.S. states and 12 countries, advising hospitals, airports, stadiums, and essential workplaces. He has served on medical advisory committees for airlines, airports, professional sports organizations, and hospitality groups, helping guide evidence-based decisions to protect public health.
A former officer in both the Australian and British militaries, Dr. Macgregor-Skinner is also an Associate Professor at Penn State College of Medicine. In his role at ISSA, he leads the Making Safer Choices program and the Community of Practice, advancing evidence-based cleaning practices that improve health, safety, and resilience worldwide. He is a frequent media contributor, appearing on CNN, BBC, Fox News, C-SPAN, and other international outlets to translate complex science into practical guidance.
