Dr. Musto holds an extensive academic background, including a B.Sc. in Chemistry, M.Sc. in Organic and Physical Chemistry, the equivalent of an M.Sc. in Biomedical Science, and a Doctorate in Medicinal Chemistry. He completed 10 years of pre- and post-doctoral training in clinical laboratory science and established his first Clinical Pathology Laboratory in 1979.

A Board-Certified Clinical Laboratory Director, Dr. Musto is a Diplomate of the American Board of Bioanalysis (BCLD), a Board-Certified Clinical Consultant (CC), a Fellow of the National Academy of Clinical Biochemistry (FACB), and a Fellow of the Association of Clinical Scientists. He is federally certified under CLIA, state certified as a Clinical Laboratory Director and Consultant, and holds a Certificate of Qualification from the New York State Department of Health. He maintains his certifications through ongoing continuing medical education.

Dr. Musto is a Clinical Scientist Member of the American Society of Clinical Pathologists and has served as a Team Leader for College of American Pathologists (CAP) accreditation inspection teams. Formerly an Associate Professor of Clinical Pathology at the University of Massachusetts Medical School, he has lectured extensively at local and national clinical meetings and provided education to physicians, pathology residents, and nursing professionals on the application of laboratory medicine to patient care.

In addition to his leadership at Microbiology Dx, Dr. Musto serves as Clinical Laboratory Director for Brookside Clinical Laboratory in Aston, Pennsylvania, a full-service clinical pathology laboratory including PCR testing for respiratory pathogens such as SARS-CoV-2, and for Progene Dx, a genetic testing laboratory in Bedford, Massachusetts.
